Dr. Pemberton and us
In the heart of downtown Atlanta, in the Centennial Olympic Park, one will find the World of Coca-Cola. Atlanta is thought of as the “Home of Coca-Cola“, but historically speaking, Columbus, Georgia probably has a more substantive claim to that distinction.
Just outside of the WoC-C’s main building is a statue of Dr. John Pemberton, the pharmacist who created Coke in 1886. The taking of a group, or individual, photo with the good Doctor is almost obligatory for anyone visiting the area. Sadly, Dr. Pemberton died in 1888 at the age of 57, poor and nearly bankrupt.
