A more meaningful designation?

When friends or acquaintances ask about my photography, I generally cringe a little as I reply that, most of the time, I’m engaged in street photography.  More often than not, my answer is met with a blank stare or, “Street photography.  What’s that?”

I’ve always found the phrase ‘Street Photography’ to be a bit of a misnomer which doesn’t clearly describe what I do with my camera.

Nick Turpin, the founder of the iN-PUBLiC street photography collective, apparently agrees and has proposed the adoption of a new phrase, Candid Public Photography (#canpubphoto) for this genre of photography which many of us enjoy.
